Southern Salvor – Tow to Scrap

In February 1998 In partnership with Tradex Marine we undertook a tandem tow project of a 50mtr bunker barge and 42mtr ex French research vessel (Marara) with the 52mtr ex oil rig tender MV Southern Salvor.

The Southern Salvor departed Auckland with the barge in tow for Nelson where the Marara was bought out of the Nelson port by the a tug. Once the tow was connected we departed for Chitagong (Bangldesh) via Freemantle to re provision and refuel after a less than favourable crossing across the Tasman.

From Fremantle we headed again for Chitagong but this time had to divert to Cocus Island to pick up a 3rd vessel that had broken down on its way to scrap in India. After negations with the owners we carried on to Chitagong with 3 vessel in tow.

Once we reached the Chitagong river arrangements were made to beach all 4 vessels on the beaching tide and fly all the crew home to NZ.
